Having a Composite Filling treatment at Ravenscourt Dental
Composite fillings are tooth-coloured resins that have become increasingly popular in modern dentistry as they are a more natural-looking alternative to traditional metal fillings.
A composite filling, or white filling, is an alternative to amalgam (metal) fillings, helping to restore a decayed tooth or repair a defect but with the added benefit of blending into the mouth.
People do not only choose composite resins for their aesthetic advantage, many patients prefer them as they do not contain mercury, like amalgam fillings.
A Composite filling can sometimes involve a less invasive procedure, meaning more of the tooth is saved and the patient needs less drilling before the dentist begins filling.
This is why composite fillings are an ideal solution for people who wish to restore teeth with a more natural appearance while also not compromising on quality or durability.
How are fillings done?
Having composite dental fillings in London shouldn’t be a painful process and can usually be done from beginning to end in one short appointment. Before the filling is placed, we will use a local anaesthetic to totally numb the area, so that you don’t feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is completely numb, your dentist will begin to drill into the affected tooth to remove the areas of decay and fill the hole with composite resin.
To ensure your new smile looks as natural as possible, we will make sure to colour-match your filling so that it blends in effortlessly with the rest of your teeth.
You may choose to have a composite filling if:
- You’ve broken or chipped your tooth
- You have gaps in your teeth
- You have cavities which need filling
- You suffer from tooth discolouration
